Most mail servers require that the sending server identifies itself correctly, using a valid domain name. Secure Connection: Most servers do not use secure connections, but this setting allows you to select ssl or tls if required.

The password will be the the password associated with the SMTP server, often the same password as your server email password. The username will differ from server to server, but will often be your server email address. Username/Password This is the username for your authentification with the SMTP server. Messages: Webtrees needs to send e-mails, such as password reminders and website notifications, and this drop-down list determines how those emails are sent from your website.
